AMD recently announced their newest Ryzen 5000 CPUs, featuring the Zen 3 Architecture which they claim is faster than Intel in gaming. They announced several models along with teasing their newest graphics cards.
The Ryzen 5000 CPUs are using an improved version of the 7nm process node that the last generation Ryzen 3000 used. It’s worth noting they skipped Ryzen 4000 for the desktop as the 4000 series was laptop only.
AMD is boasting a 19% IPC increase and massive improvements with the Ryzen 5000 series in gaming compared to last generation, and even beat Intel’s top CPU the i9 10900K at 1080P gaming benchmarks.
This is also coming straight from the company so remember to take it with a grain of salt and wait for 3rd party reviews and benchmarks – although AMD historically has been very honest on their CPUs actual performance on these launch events in the past.
Niche Gamer’s Take: With AMD increasing pricing $50 across the stack from last generation it makes getting an upgrade a harder pill to swallow, although the increased gaming performance might be enough to get some users to justify upgrading in order to push those 240Hz+ gaming monitors.
The lack of non X SKU’s and the 5700X part makes me think that these increased prices are temporary and will improve in a few months, though until then, for most users the current 3000 series CPUs are still a solid value and should be even better for Black Friday.
